ZAYAITZ NAMED PROVOST AND VICE PRESIDENT FOR

ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

Dr. Anne Zayaitz

has

been named provost and vice

president for academic affairs

at Kutztown University. Zayaitz,

who will serve as the university’s

chief academic officer and as a

member of the president’s cabinet,

will be second-in-command for

the institution. Her position

serves as the main advocate

for student success and the

pursuit of academic excellence,

with oversight of educational,

scholarly service and research

initiatives throughout the division of Academic Affairs.This will

include oversight of the university’s academic colleges and under-

graduate, graduate and doctoral programs.

Zayaitz served as acting provost and vice president of academic

and student affairs since March 2015. During that period, the

university secured five accreditations and announced its first two

doctoral programs.Three newminor programs and one certification

were added this spring, and 11 new programs, including four

bachelor’s and two master’s programs, will debut in the fall.

Zayaitz has been a member of the Kutztown University com-

munity since 1985, when she joined the faculty in the Department

of Biology. She taught various biology courses at KU for 14 years,

advancing to associate professor.During that period,Zayaitz regularly

advised more than 70 students, helped secured more than $300,000

in grants, and served as the university ombudsperson.

“I am very excited to join the president’s cabinet as provost and

vice president for academic affairs,”Zayaitz said. “I look forward

The Kutztown University Athletics Hall of Fame

inducted its Class of 2016 in February. The 37th annual class,

Kutztown University Clinical

Services hosted an Out of the

Darkness Walk for suicide

awareness and prevention in

April. More than 600 walkers

circled the DMZ raising $12,000

for the American Foundation for

Suicide Prevention.

HILTON JOINS KU AS VICE PRESIDENT OF ENROLLMENT

MANAGEMENT AND STUDENT AFFAIRS

Dr. Warren Hilton

has been

named vice president for

enrollment management and

student affairs at Kutztown

University. Hilton will be

responsible for all enrollment

management activities and

select student affairs programs

in the newly restructured,

cabinet-level position.

Hilton comes to KU

from the Community Col-

lege of Philadelphia (CCP),

where he has served as dean

of enrollment management since August

2014.He

is responsible

for overseeing an enrollment management division that includes

110 employees and a multi-million dollar

budget.He

increased

international student enrollment by 10 percent and maintained an

overall stable enrollment for the college.

Prior to CCP,Hilton was the associate dean for student and

external affairs at Drexel University in Philadelphia, where he

served for more than five

years.He

was the senior student af-

fairs, enrollment management, and external affairs officer for the

School of Public

Health.He

revamped the orientation program

to include student success components, managed the advising

system, and increased first-year student enrollment by 20 percent.

He was promoted to associate dean from the role of assistant dean

for student and external affairs (2011-13), and assistant dean for

student affairs (2009-11).

Hilton worked at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa., from

2003 until 2009. He was the associate dean for student develop-

ment from 2006-09. His responsibilities included the supervision

of leadership development, student activities and orientation,

community service, and career development. From 2003-06, he

served as Moravian’s director for career development. Hilton

had stints early in his career as the assistant director for career

development at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore,Md.

(2001-03); academic advisor/evening administrator at Stevenson

University in Stevenson,Md. (2002-03); volunteer career coun-

selor/event planner at Baltimore Community College (2002-03);

and course lecturer/career consultant at University of Maryland,

College Park (1999-01). He has taught graduate higher educa-

tion as well as health management and policy related coursework

since 2011.

A native of Philadelphia,Hilton is a member of eight profes-

sional organizations and does extensive volunteer

work.He

has

completed nearly 30 publications and presentations, has been a

journal peer reviewer and has secured two major grants.Hilton

earned his Doctor of Education in educational leadership and

management from

Drexel.He

earned his Master of Arts in

student affairs and Bachelor of Science in computer science with

minor in economics from Indiana University of Pa.

The Kutztown University Council of Trustees

has appointed new officers for

the 2016 – 2018 academic years. Dr. Charles Blocksidge ’65 has been appointed the

chair of the trustees,Tom Heck has been appointed vice chair, and Dianne Lutz has

been appointed secretary.

Blocksidge served in multiple capacities at the Community College of Allegheny

County (CCAC) and retired as executive director of government relations and special

projects. He was inducted into the Kutztown University Athletics Hall of Fame for

football in 1979 and was recently named to the 1960s All-Decade Team.

Heck is the owner of Heck Brothers, a third-generation family-owned full service

florist which has served Reading and the Berks County area for 109 years.

Lutz is managing director and registered representative of Concert Wealth Man-

agement, Inc., San Jose, Calif., and Dinosaur Securities, New York and London. She

is the president and founder of Dianne Mae Financial, Sinking Spring, Pa. She is also

co-owner of Pappy G’s, Inc., Sinking Spring.

faculty and staff at the university, as well as working

with Dr.Hawkinson to ensure student success.”

Zayaitz has served on many committees at KU

through the years, including chair of the new vice

president for enrollment management and student

affairs search,Women’s Center Advisory Board, Com-

mission on Human Diversity and the University

Safety Committee. She was an advisor to the Best

Buddies student organization.

In the community, Zayaitz is the president of

East Penn Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a board

member of the East Penn School District Education

Foundation, and a volunteer at the Outley House

Shelter for Men in Philadelphia, Pa. Zayaitz earned

her Ph.D. in food microbiology with a minor in

nutrition and economics from Cornell University,

Ithaca, N.Y. She earned her Master of Science from

Cornell in food microbiology and her Bachelor of

Arts fromDuke University,Durham,N.C., in botany.
