The 1950s
Ann (Murphy) Farrell ’57
married
Isaac Evans, a high school classmate,
on May 2, 2014. They reside in
Coaldale, Pa.
The 1960s
Rebecca (Casner) Desmond ’61
retired from her job as an art teacher
in the Downingtown Area School
District after a 52-year career. During
her career, she coached high school
tennis for more than 40 seasons. Along
with a high school coach from Florida,
she co-authored a book in 1995 for
the United States Tennis Association,
entitled “How to Coach Tennis Suc-
cessfully.” In 2003, she was named
coach of the year by the U.S. Profes-
sional Tennis Registry. And, in 2008,
she was the first inductee into the
Hall of Fame of the U.S. Professional
Tennis Registry. The tennis courts at
Downingtown West High School were
dedicated on June 11 in honor of
Desmond and her coaching career.
Dr. Charles Blocksidge ’65
was
appointed vice chair of the Kutztown
University Council of Trustees.

Richard Vito
, a former Fleetwood
Mac guitarist, an award-winning
author of country music hits and one
of the hottest YouTube musical acts,
headlined at Musikfest in Bethlehem
in August.
Katherine (Turner) Sterngold ’73
was
selected to exhibit two of her stone-
ware pots at the 2014 “Visions in
Clay” exhibition. Sterngold is an art
instructor at Lycoming College.
Douglas Wiltraut ’73
won the John
J. Newman Medal for his painting,
“Buy American,” inspired by the now
closed Saucony Shoe Factory in
Kutztown. The medal is awarded
to one artist each year and was
presented to Wiltraut in June 2014
at the 60th annual exhibition of
the National Society of Painters
in Casein and Acrylic. His winning
piece is a social commentary on the
decline of the manufacturing industry
throughout the U.S. In 2001, Wiltraut
was awarded the Rothermel Award
from the Kutztown University Alumni
Association for his distinguished
achievements.
Dr. George Zimmerman ’73
received
the Lawrence E. Blaha Award from
the Association for Education and
Rehabilitation of the Blind and
Visually Impaired, for his work in
the field of orientation and mobility.
Zimmerman is a professor at the
University of Pittsburgh School of
Education and coordinator of the
Vision Studies Program.
Lisa (Heberling) Zielinski ’73
was
honored at the Professional
Recognition Celebration of the
Wayne Highlands Education
Association (WHEA) at Ehrhardt’s
Waterfront Resort on May 30. Zielinski
taught math for 15 years at Wayne
Highlands, two at Wayne Highlands
Middle School and 13 at Honesdale
High School.

County (CCAC). Blocksidge was
also CCAC’s vice president of
organizational development and
executive assistant to the president.
Blocksidge was inducted into the
KU Athletics Hall of Fame for foot-
ball in 1979. He has served on the
KU Council of Trustees since 2009.
Anthony Cipriano ’65
is celebrat-
ing his 50th year coaching at
Souderton Area High School.
There have been, by his estimate,
more than 500 game nights
and days.
Dr. Joe Rogan ’68
, professor of
special education at Misericordia
University, was honored by the
university for his 35 years of ser-
vice. Before coming to Misericordia,
he was a teacher with Lackawanna
County Schools and the North-
eastern Intermediate Unit. Rogan is
the recipient of numerous profes-
sional honors, including being
named one of the state’s top 25
“pioneer” special educators by
the Pennsylvania Department of
Education. He is married to Elaine
Serafini Rogan, a retired elementary
teacher, and has two children and
four grandchildren.
John “Jack” Wabby ’69
was appointed
the chair of the Kutztown University
Council of Trustees. Wabby taught
in the Saint Clair and Danville
school districts and was assistant
principal at Williams Valley High
School, and principal at Saint Clair
and Blue Mountain high schools.
Wabby was selected for KU’s first
Athletic Hall of Fame class for
football in 1977. He served on the
KU Council of Trustees since 1992
and as chair of the council from
1998 through 2000.
