BSW Field Profiles 2020-21

BSW Shania Mitchell 2020 Agency Name: Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth Profile: I am a senior at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, studying for my BSW. I am currently placed at Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth (OCY) located in Norristown, PA. OCY ’ s focus is to address and improve conditions which adversely affect a child ’ s well - being. Field Placement Responsibilities: As an intern at the Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth, I will be working in the Resource Home Unit. Within this unit, I will primarily complete initial and annual foster and kinship care home studies, observe interviews with prospective foster parents, and attend case review meetings with OCY employees to assess current placements in order to help provide safe, comfortable placements for children removed from the care of their biological parents or legal guardians. Future Goals: Based on my experiences with diverse populations, children, and older adults, I hope to use the skills that I have learned to improve the quality of life for people of all ages and backgrounds.
