and cultural studies theories to begin to
get to the root of why certain librarian
stereotypes exist today and whether or
not it’s possible to change some of these
stereotypes. It also looks at what stereo-
types librarians think exist about the field
today, how librarians present themselves
and whether or not this is changing (and
consequently helping or hurting, the
profession), and what public perceptions
exist about librarianship as opposed to just
what the media tells us about librarianship.
The 2010s
Jacinth Sutphin-Massari ’10
is producer
and lead actress in
Diary Of A Badman,
a
low-budget drama that won Best Feature
Film at last year’s Jamaica Film Festival.
The 130-minute movie was shot in sections
of New York and New Jersey. The plot
surrounds a Jamaican immigrant to the
United States who is working undercover
on a high-profile case.

appeared in the
limited off-Broadway production of

has joined Weichert
Realtors Neighborhood One in Spring
Township, Pa., as a realtor.
Ashley McDevitt ’11,
a designer with Kathy
Davis Studios, showcased her whimsical
miniature universes in an exhibition,
“Imaginarium Terrarium,” at the Scatter
Joy Center for the Arts, Horsham, Pa.
Leslie Spurgin ’11
has been named an
aftercare and family support counselor
with the YMCA of Reading & Berks County.
Her main responsibilities will be working
with the DUI 2nd Offenders program as
part of the YMCA Housing Team.
Sara Steele ’11
is a 5th year doctoral
student at the University of Alabama
where she won the Award for Excellence
in Teaching by a Doctoral Student. This is
a university-wide honor and included a
$1,000 award.
Stephen Berkowitz ’12
has invented a new
blackjack game that is now being featured
at the Sands casino in Bethlehem. The game,
called Switch Hands, lets players buy into
a second blackjack hand during the same
deal, if they don’t like the hand they have.
The new game won the 2014 Best New Table
Game Award from
Casino Journal.
Francis Lally ’12
has been named the head
coach for track and field at Marian Catholic
High School. Lally has been an assistant
coach for Marian track and field since 2014
and also served as an assistant for the
Shenandoah Valley football team.
Cody Montz ’12
is a patrolman with the
Pottsville Bureau of Police, Pottsville, Pa.
He successfully completed Act 120 training
at the Lackawanna College Police Academy
and currently serves on Watch 3.

Luis Beltran ’13,
a native of Colombia, has
become a naturalized citizen of the United
States. Beltran works with non-English-speak-
ing students in the Reading School District.

has been sworn in as
a police officer in Ramsey, N.J.

opened Evolution Base-
ball, an indoor academy in Shillington, Pa.
Brandon Shurr ’13
has joined the YMCA
of Reading & Berks County as the new
program coordinator for the Tri-Valley
Branch. His main focus will be youth sports
leagues and will assist in the YMCA
Summer Camp Programs.
Chynna Gehman ’14
has been named the
new head women’s volleyball coach at
Penn State Lehigh Valley. Gehman began
her coaching career in 2011 coaching club
volleyball for Push the Rock and Club
Lehigh before moving to southern Cali-
fornina in 2013.
Brianna Knipe ’14
has been named head
softball coach at Dieruff High School,
Allentown, Pa.
Dylan McCoy ’14,
U.S. Air Force Airman 1st
Class, graduated from basic military training
at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San
Antonio, Texas.
Guy Sechrist ’14
was accepted to Cambridge
University for the fall semester, 2016.
Ryan Springborn ’14
has been named
merchandising manager and sales repre-
sentative with the Reading Fightin Phils
Baseball Club. He will manage the Steve
Moyer Subaru Fightins Team Store while
selling tickets and corporate sponsorships
in his new role. Springborn began working
with the Fightins as a game day intern in
2014 in graphic arts and was brought back
on board in 2015 as a front office intern.
Sean Burns ’15
has been appointed to the
special inspections and materials testing
group at Barry Isett & Associates.
Meghan Devlin ’15
claimed the 2016 Queen
of the Snows title at the 49th edition of
the Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival.
Devlin won the crown from among a field
of 22 women during the Senior Princess
Coronation Pageant at Pottsville Area High
School’s Robert W. Wachter Auditorium.
Kyle Eck ’15
has joined NewLiquid Interactive
as aweb developer in the technology depart-
ment, coding websites and applications .
Anthony Susi ’15
has been added to the
creative team as associate art director of
Stiegler, Wells, Brunswick & Roth advertis-
ing, marketing and public relations agency.
Susi will assist the creative director while also
serving his own set of clients. Susi interned at
the company during his time at KU.
Evan Yenolevich ’15
was inducted into the
Northwestern High School Hall of Fame.
Yenolevich went to three straight state
wrestling finals before winning at 125 to
cap a 38-1 senior season in 2009.
