MSW Field Profiles 2019-20

MSW Margaret Richter 2019 Agency Name: AseraCare Hospice Allentown Profile: AseraCare Hospice Allentown serves families in 5 counties in eastern PA. We provide services to patients who are diagnosed with a terminal illness. We also support the families and friends of our patients by providing social work services, chaplain services, and bereavement services. Field Placement Responsibilities: At my agency I go out and do social work visits with our MSW. During our visits, we work on end-of-life goals and coping with our patients. We also provide support to the families and friends our patients. I also do volunteer visits for our clients that request volunteer services. These visits can include me reading to the patients, doing puzzles with the patients, or simply being a compassionate presence. I also sit vigil with our patients at the end of their hospice journey. Future Goals: I plan to continue in the hospice setting once I graduate with my MSW. I do plan on coming back to KU for my DSW and most likely will pursue the learning track during that time.
