Summer 2015
In 1928, when the Kutztown State Teacher’s College
was authorized to award the bachelor’s degree, little
of the downtown district of Kutztown Borough was
as it is now. In 1960, as the institution was deemed
Kutztown State College by the Pa. Department of
Education, it began taking shape, but not really as
a place where university employees or students
really ventured to “hang out.”
But by the time KutztownUniversity of Pennsylvania
was named such in 1983, business in downtown
Kutztown was in full swing, and it remains so to
this day, albeit with some transitions.
