FALL 2018 | TOWER 27 The 1960s John D. Rausch ’64, M’72 leads Pennsylvania German classes at Belleman’s Church, Mohrsville, Pa., with all contributions going to the upkeep of the church. Belleman’s was built in 1815 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 1970s J. Gail McGrew-Fruecht ’72 , a life member of American Mensa, Ltd., endowed a fourth scholarship with the Mensa Education and Research Foundation. The scholarship is a national award for veterinary students. Her previous three scholarships have assisted more than 35 students so far. Tana Reiff ’73 released a new book in her Hopes and Dreams series. “Amala’s Hope (A Family from Syria)” joins 10 other titles of historical fiction about immigrant experiences from education publisher ProLingua Associates, Brattleboro, Vt. In her so-called retirement she also has been actively involved with photography. Robert Stickloon ’73, M’76 hosted a 35-year retrospective exhibition of drawings and paintings at Penn State Berks. Rosemary Bateman Buscarini ’75 has published three children’s books, “Grandma’s Teddy Bear,” “Nick Rabbit Takes Charge” and “Drew’s Aquarium Adventure.” KU professor emerita Mary Leiby Laub ’73 has published a children’s book, “Uff der Bauerei (On the Farm)”. Her goal in writing the book is to perpetuate the Pa. Dutch language. Terry Underkoffler ’76 accepted the head coach position of the boys’ soccer team at Worcester Preparatory School, Berlin, Md. With 30 years of coaching experience and more than 400 wins under his belt, he had no plans of taking on another coaching job after retirement, but this position had his name on it. He achieved his 500th career win at Worcester Prep. Robert Cuzzolino ’77 has received the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Alumni Association’s Certificate of Honor — the highest award given by the association in recognition of distinguished services rendered and loyal devotion to the welfare and strengthening of the school. Suzanne Lucine ’77 received The Morgan Horse Industry Honors 2017. She was the first recipient of the Favorite Writer/Show Reporter award, as voted by her peers in the Morgan Horse Industry. She is a member of the Women in Our Industry Honor Roll with The Morgan Horse magazine and was the first recipient of the Mabel Owen Media Award, sponsored by the American Morgan Horse Association. John Hults ’79 has been named director of advancement services with the Kutztown University Foundation and Alumni Relations. The 1980s Susan McKeone ’82 has been named to the board of directors of the Kutztown University Alumni Association. Rhonda Vilcheck Friese ’83 has retired after 31 years of teaching. She currently resides in Elizabethtown, Pa., with her husband, Rick ’83 . Linda Cliatt-Wayman ’83 was awarded an honorary Doctor of Public Service at KU’s 2018 Spring Commencement ceremony. Cliatt-Wayman spent 20 years as a special education teacher before becoming principal of Philadelphia’s FitzSimons High School in 2003. In 2005, she took over The Young Women’s Leadership School at Rhodes High School. She also spent two years as assistant superintendent of high schools for the School District of Philadelphia, directly overseeing 52 high schools. When her two former schools, FitzSimons and Rhodes, merged with Strawberry Mansion high school, Cliatt-Wayman knew she had to step in to lead and became principal in 2012. Her success in transforming schools, as well as the resulting achievements of her students, were featured by Diane Sawyer/ABC World News Tonight and “Nightline” in May 2013. In August 2017, she released a book, “Lead Fearlessly, Love Hard: Finding Your Purpose and Putting it to Work,” which chronicles her experiences and captures the leadership lessons she’s learned along the way. Susan Rozzi Murray ’84 is chief operating officer and financial officer of Soroptimist International of the Americas, a global volunteer organization that works to improve the lives of disadvantaged women and girls through programs leading to economic empowerment. Murray will provide direction, management and the vision necessary to ensure Soroptimist has the appropriate resources and systems in place to effectively support the organization’s growing collective impact while ensuring its financial strength and operating efficiency. Jeffrey Fussner ’85 has been named to the board of directors of the Kutztown University Foundation and Alumni Relations. Michael Pittaro ’85, M’00 , was named the 2018 Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year at the American Military University. He is an assistant professor of criminal justice within the School of Security Studies and also serves as an adjunct criminal justice professor at East Stroudsburg University.
