FALL 2021 | TOWER 23 program’s first NCAA tournament berth. Kutztown has qualified for the postseason in 21 of the last 26 seasons. On Dec. 20, 1996, standout Amy Wahl ’00 set school records for single-game scoring (39 points) and steals (nine) during a 72- 61 KU victory at Quinnipiac. She came within one rebound of the program’s first-ever triple-double, which would be set 17 years later when Advia Campbell ’15 totaled 11 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks against West Chester on Dec. 7, 2013. Wahl surpassed former teammate Robin Avery ’98 for the program’s career scoring record in 1999, scoring 1,434 points. That mark stood for more than a decade until Melissa McQuade ’11 shattered it with 1,623 points between 2007-11. Rylee Derr ’21 is poised to make a run at the top spot, entering her final year of eligibility in 2021-22 with 1,382 points. Kutztown reached unchartered territory in 2018-19, hosting the PSAC Final Four and reaching the conference championship game for the first time in team history on the heels of its second PSAC East title. The Golden Bears’ most recent campaign (2019-20) resulted in a third straight season of 18 wins or more and another trip to the conference tournament. It’s been a special first half century for varsity women’s basketball at KU, though this is but a snippet of the accomplishments and contributors encapsulating the program’s journey from startup to perennial contender.
