WINTER 2018 | TOWER 5 SCHOLARSHIPS ENHANCED BY $500,000 DONATION The Kutztown University Foundation and Kutztown University accepted a $500,000 donation from the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation and the Give Something Back Foundation. Working through their Goals & Assists partnership, Snider Hockey and Give Back assist students in overcoming obstacles and succeeding in school. Goals & Assists serves children from urban neighborhoods in the Philadelphia area who learn important life lessons while playing ice hockey. The gift will fund scholarships for 25 Goals & Assists Scholars to attend Kutztown University. GALLAGHER JOINS STATE SYSTEM OF HIGHER EDUCATION BOARD OF GOVERNORS KU senior Molly Gallagher of Kennett Square, Pa., has been named to the Board of Governors of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. Gallagher is a communication studies major, with minors in leadership, public administration, women and gender studies and public relations. She is serving her second term as president of the Student Government Association and sits on the President’s Administrative Council Board. The 20-member Board of Governors is responsible for overseeing Pennsylvania’s 14 public universities. The board establishes broad educational, fiscal and personnel policies, and oversees the efficient management of the State System. Among other tasks, it appoints the chancellor and university presidents, approves new academic programs, sets tuition and coordinates and approves the State System’s annual operating budget. The Board comprises 11 members appointed by the governor, three students, four legislators, the governor or a designee and the state secretary of education or a designee.
