Living and Learning 123|Page www.kutztown.edu/thekey • Telehealth services for acute medical concerns are available to students living on-campus during times when the health center is closed. All emergencies are referred to local hospitals. Ambulance transports are billed directly to the medical insurance carrier, or directly to the student if no insurance is in place. The Health & Wellness Center is not involved in ambulance transport billing. Students are encouraged to bring their student ID and insurance information to all appointments. The health insurance information will be needed for any off-campus referrals and laboratory testing provided in-house. Some services will incur a nominal fee that will be charged to the student’s account or billed to the student’s medical insurance carrier, such as: • Prescription medication (except birth control & STD treatment). • Diagnostic testing (Testing for flu, COVID-19, strep throat, urinary infections, etc.). • Basic physicals required for driver’s license exams, ROTC programs, & limited types of employment. • Tuberculosis screenings. • Vaccines. • Various medical supplies not covered under the student health center fee. Clinical Services will provide excuse notes when absence from class is warranted. No excuses will be provided when students are treated by non-university providers or not seen by Health Center staff at the time of illness. Verification of student encounters to professors, employers, parents/guardians, and others violates federal privacy regulations and will not be provided. Counseling Center The Counseling Center offers short-term, solution-focused counseling services to undergraduate and graduate students struggling with emotional and psychological difficulties. Our faculty counselors work with students to foster personal and academic growth and success. Counseling services include individual and group counseling, outreach, and crisis intervention. Students who require more intensive, long-term, or specialized psychological services not offered by the Counseling Center will be offered referrals to appropriate services in the community. To avoid dual relationships, students who receive counseling services through the KU Counseling Center may not concurrently or subsequently work as a practicum student, intern, student worker or graduate assistant. Counseling services are provided by doctoral and master's level licensed mental health professionals. Services are also provided by master’s and doctoral level student counselors in-training under professional faculty counselor supervision. Counseling services are confidential, within the limits of applicable laws. The Counseling Center (610–683–4072) is in Beck Hall 122 and is open 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Mondays and Fridays, and 11:00am – 7:00pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the fall and spring semesters. The Counseling Center is closed when classes are not held and during breaks in the academic calendar.
