KUAC is run under the guidance of Professor David Wagaman and Dr. Greg Kaufinger. The KUAC is open to all majors interested in learning about the vital role accountancy has in the business world. The current executive board members argue that students majoring in accounting, finance or personal financial planning may find KUAC participation the most beneficial. The club typically holds two or three meetings a month involving outside groups or individuals who bring various elements of the profession to the table. The topics discussed are relevant to all areas of accounting, such as: auditing, accounting information systems, cost accounting, the CPA/CMA exams, financial accounting and tax. Free pizza is always provided at every club meeting! Each school year, the KUAC is themost active student-led organization in KU’s College of Business; they host over 20 meetings or events each academic year. Significant KUAC-hosted events include: Meet the Firms Night, KUAC Golf Outing & Dinner, Student Night @ the IMA, 1040 Friends and the KUAC Banquet. While these events are fun for all participants, the main benefits are networking and gaining knowledge about accounting in the corporate world. Besides these events, KUAC hosts regularly scheduled club meetings, field trips, panel discussions with current students, alumni and accounting professionals and featured speakers. Outside of their events, the KUAC takes field trips; this year, they plan to take a trip to New York City to meet with representatives of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and to spend free time in the business capital of the world. Another trip they have planned is to attend the Philadelphia Phillies #CollegeSeries Finance Night to learn from top Phillies, Citizens Bank and KPMG executives during a moderated question and answer session in the Phillies Media Room. In the past, KUAC has taken field trips to Washington D.C., Baltimore, MD, Boston, MA and Charlotte, NC. Between their meetings, events and field trips, the KUAC works with their participants in mind. By joining the KUAC, this will allow students to better understand the accounting profession, to provide networking opportunities, to prepare students for successful accounting careers, to bridge the gap between classroom-learned skills and the business world and to provide opportunities to connect with other like-minded people. Accounting major or not, being a club member allows students to enhance their resume, develop stronger business and leadership skills and interact with representatives from accounting firms and Fortune 500 companies. For more information about the KUAC, you can find them on LinkedIn, Instagram (@kutztownaccountingclub), Engage @ KU and on the 2nd floor bulletin board in DeFrancesco.
