Innovision Fall 2019

SPRING 2019 | 23 How did you get your internship? Was it difficult? I don’t think it was difficult; I put the effort towards getting my name out there and taking the initiative to get what I wanted. I started out with the Philadelphia Eagles Game Day Staff. I introduced myself and made valuable connections with my co-workers inquiring about available internships they had to offer. What were some challenges you faced when starting your internship? What are some things you think you excelled at in your position? As a group of new interns, we were thrown into the beginning of the season which was overwhelming, but a good way to start and show your potential. It was nice to be able to ask questions and have people there to help. I had the experience working with the game day staff which gave me background knowledge of the way things worked. What do you do on a day-to-day basis interning for the Philadelphia Eagles? The day-to-day basis can change at any moment. In the weeks prior to a home game, the office becomes busier with answering phone calls from fans regarding their experience. I also help set-up our will-call, which includes people who have pre-game experiences, field passes for warm-ups, and guests who have issues with mobile ticketing aspects. We assist with Temple games during away weeks which are more relaxed. For Temple games, I help set up our will-call. I also work on my project that was assigned to me which is offering season ticket members the opportunity to have a pre-game experience. What did you learn at KU that made you feel the most prepared for your internship? KU helped me with getting connections to the right people. Taking the classes throughout the Sport Management program helped enlighten me with background on sports. What helped to prepare me the most was the wide range of courses. What do you think are the most important qualities/skills for someone to excel in this internship/role? If you want something, you need to go after it. Opportunities are never handed to someone. I put the energy towards what was in front of me. Having good communication skills and motivation are key. Say yes to whatever projects or opportunities are presented to you. With positive attitude, success is there. This industry can be very competitive so with the right tools and knowledge learned from this experience, it will help me later on. During your internship, have you met any of the players? Do you interact with fans? If so, what’s that like? I have the opportunity to interact with players every day. It is a cool experience to work for a team you are a fan of and on top of that getting to interact with them is great. Every fan experience is different and the interaction that comes with it. During the games, you will find me in will-call assistance, answering phones or running tickets to our guest service booths. MEAGHAN TYRELL ‘20 Meaghan Tyrell is a Sports Management major with a minor in Digital Communication and New Media. She is a tickets and fan services intern for the Philadelphia Eagles.
