16 | INNOVISION MAGAZINE The 9th annual Kutztown University Business Idea Competition took place on November 7. During the event, entrepreneurs competed to win cash prizes and mentorship opportunities. Prior to the event, the competitors developed an idea for a small business or product and constructed a basic business plan. Seven ideas were chosen to compete in the final round, which was judged by Kim Davis, Lori Donofrio-Galley, Pamela S. Gockley and Carly Simon. The contestants were given five minutes to present their plans, and the judges then asked follow-up questions. The first place entrepreneur Shayla Scallorn (‘21), a Social Media Theory and Strategy major, presented Anthology Marketing Studio, a digital agency for artists who want to make a living creating. The agency will include tailored services such as brand development and content planning to help artists see themselves as business owners, not just creators. The second place team was Mail Alert, comprised of Joel Kuneck (‘19), CoreyManship (‘19), Taylor Lentz (‘19) and Brandon Edelman (‘20) who are all Information Technology majors. Mail Alert is an online service that provides mail tracking for large university buildings, dorms and apartments. The third place winner was Divine Desserts CSA proposed by Dorian O’Connell (‘20), a Finance major. Divine Desserts CSA creates top quality, local, seasonal desserts with collaboration from local farmers offering Community Supported Agriculture shares. The first, second and third place winners won prizes of $1000, $750 and $500 respectively. For those groups with multiple people, the cash prize is split up between members. Alongside the cash prize, the winners will be provided the resources available to help prepare them for the Pennsylvania State System Startup Challenge in Spring 2020.
