Innovision Fall 2019
SPRING 2019 | 13 STUDENT GOVERNMENT “I hold the College of Business near and dear to my heart. I want to make sure there is steady communication between College of Business students and faculty,” sophomore Andy Reyes explains. This is Andy’s second semester as the College of Business (COB) representative for KU’s Student Government Board (SGB) and the chair of SGB Public Relations. In this role, Andy works very closely with the dean’s office, Garrett Hudak and Clyde Killebrew IV to bridge the gap between students and administration. Garrett is the dean’s liaison for the COB and Clyde is a student leader. To achieve this goal, Andy and COB representatives hosted Dunkin’ in deFran to gather input from students. This event allowed COB students to give productive comments about their KU experience. The student representatives met with Dr. Anne Carroll to discuss the feedback received from their fellow students. Andy asserts, “With the joint efforts of students and administration, we want to make the College of Business a welcoming community that pushes everyone to perform their best.” ANDRES REYES ‘22 Andres “Andy” Reyes is a sophomore business marketing major. As the College of Business representative for KU’s Student Government Board, he has made strides in increasing involvement for COB students and staff. An immediate result of this discussion is establishing a student lounge in deFrancesco room 25. The lounge should be available for student enjoyment in spring 2020. Every year, the COB hosts a networking event for students to mingle and network with local professionals and KU professors to market themselves as professionals while learning networking skills. Andy believes the annual networking event is the COB’s most successful event due to the large turn out of a variety of students and faculty; he also believes that other COB events could be better attended. The COB is looking into new social media avenues for promotion of the events. Several other initiatives from the meeting will be addressed in the coming months. Andy and those he works alongside have made great headway in improving student and faculty involvement throughout the COB. Andy is open to suggestions for improvement and says, “I am very hopeful to see where the College of Business goes.” Dunkin’ in deFran
