Innovision Fall 2018

FALL 2018 | 35 Most members are in the club to expand their experience with Supply Chain Management. “I think they’re trying to broaden their knowledge. What you learn in the classroom is great, but it’s also better when you can go out on the warehouse tours and see what you could be doing after you graduate. It’s just like networking. It’s a great opportunity,” said Shauna. Once a month, the executive board meets to figure out the schedule for the semester and any events they have coming up. One of their initiatives is to build its members and get more people involved. Shauna has been with the club for four years and enjoyed her time with the club. She has learned many valuable tools to help her succeed in the professional world. Her hopes as a senior president is to see younger students engage with the Supply Chain Management club and enhance their knowledge on the matters. “We’re just trying to build the club right now. A lot of people that have the supply chain minor are juniors and seniors,” Shauna said. Shauna is pleased to see juniors and seniors getting involved and joining the club. She hopes in the future that the club will interest freshman and sophomores so they too could enjoy a four year experience as she did. The Supply Chain Management status has been growing here at Kutztown University. President Shauna says, “My freshman year was one of the first few years it was a minor, but before that, it was a certificate. Now, they’re trying to make it a major because other schools around here have it as a major.” During their first meeting of the semester, the club hosts a welcome meeting for anyone interested in getting involved or if there are any executive board positions open. Sometimes, they have guest speakers come to the meeting with a luncheon afterward. The club also holds fundraisers to raise money for the club and for their warehouse trips. For more information about the Supply Chain Management Club, you can email them at https://engage.kutztown.edu/engage/ organization/supply-chain-management-logistics “While I was working at the warehouse during my spring semester, I was just learning the basics.” NFI WAREHOUSE TRIP One of the recent trips that the Supply ChainManagement club has taken this semester, was to the NFI warehouse. This particular NFI site is where the companies Ocean Spray and Varidesk handle their production. The job of the NFI is to manage the inventory of these two companies and ship their products to the appropriate destinations. Club members had the opportunity to visit NFI’s display assembly unit where workers build displays for stores to showcase Ocean Spray merchandise. Dr. Gary Chao wanted the students to be exposed to how NFI operates their technology. He wanted them to learn how the use of computers and forklifts are the future of supply chain management. The club had previously taken a trip to a Home Depot warehouse that functions differently than NFI does. Dr. Chao wants to prepare the club for the different operations of supply chain management. Dr. Chao says, “If you don’t know the process, how can you manage the people?”
