Innovision Fall 2018
22 | INNOVISION MAGAZINE What are some of your daily responsibilities? I assist clients with buying and selling fixed income securities. I develop and execute portfolio strategies for clients. I help maintain our brokerage relationships and foster new business. I’m a regular contributor to our Ambassador publications where we analyze the current market conditions and make recommendations on how to position the investment portfolio. What qualities do you think are most important to succeed at your position? You need to be organized, detail oriented, articulate and hard working. What have you learned on the job that you necessarily didn’t in the classroom? Many of my classes at Kutztown were focused on equities so I had to learn quite a bit about the fixed income market when I first started. What lead you into your field? What about it motivates and inspires you? I was always interested in the financial markets growing up. I was selected to the Applied Investment Management (AIM) program at Kutztown which increased my interest in portfolio management and helped tailor my skillset for a career in this field. I’m motivated to enhance my skillset each year to help drive value for our firm. Can you briefly describe your career path from being a student at KU up until now? I was originally hired as a financial analyst but in 2009 the markets were very volatile so the mergers and acquisitions business was slow. At the time, the fixed income business was thriving so I was asked to assist on the trading desk. After getting the appropriate licenses, I began assisting the team on the trading front and now I help manage our daily trading activities as the Sr. Vice President of Fixed Income trading. I was fortunate to have found a great opportunity at Ambassador right out of KU and I haven’t had to make any career changes. What do you look forward to the most when going to work each day? I look forward to generating trading ideas that will help our clients profit off of opportunities in the market. I also enjoy the comradery of working on a trading desk as many of us are great friends even outside of the office. What are your plans for the future? I plan to continue in my current role at Ambassador. I also want to maintain a healthy balance in my professional life and personal life so that I can spend time with my wife, Brielle, and our two kids. What advice would you offer an undergraduate getting ready to enter the workforce? Work hard but don’t overlook the importance of networking. Take advantage of listening to speakers that come to campus and other events you can get involved with. Many alumni and other potential employers attend these events and these individuals can help influence your career going forward. JOSHUA ALBRIGHT ‘09 Joshua Albright graduated from KU in 2009 with a BSBA in Finance with a minor in Economics.
