Innovision Fall 2018
FALL 2018 | 19 Arabs, Greeks, and Italians. All the cultures just melting. There is this chapel in it’s Capital, it’s a Norman chapel. The basis is really pure Italian. Palestine walls. [There are] amazing Mosaics. The ceiling reflects Arabian culture. Everything is put into one Chapel. I think the most gorgeous places in the world are the Greek Islands. One summer I hopped all major Greek Islands, including Crete and Corfu. There are 12 islands. [Another is] the Alhambra palace in Granada. It’s like a poetry carved into stone. It’s so different yet, it’s so uniform. The rulers of the time gave their messages in poetry, political science, and they carved those messages into the stones. There is a courtyard that they call Court of the Lions. There are 12 lions in marble. They carved a poem, explaining the duties of rulers and rulers who ruled. But there is poetry. There is Art there. What have you learned about on your journeys? I learn about the culture, food and history. I see the places, but also how [the people] greet each other, how they joke, their hand signs, how they eat. Family is so important in Italy and France. Faith is so important in Greece. I was shocked to see how commercialized the Dalmatian Coast is in Croatia. One thing that makes me pessimistic is that for thousands of years the Croatian culture really stood out and didn’t get destroyed. But I wonder if they will be around in the next hundred years or if people will care about them. It’s a very sad thing. I feel [that] the cultural things are being ignored or commercialized. All of the Mediterranean Coast is losing its value. You see those huge cruise ships prowling the Mediterranean and they dump people who are only there just to show a selfie or to say ‘we are there.’ They have no real desire to understand the culture in one morning, you take a tour and you go to your next destination. Did you travel with anyone? My family sometimes comes and joins me in the end, but I prefer to travel alone. I get to spend as much time as I want to. I don’t have to argue with anyone. I don’t have a fixed schedule. If I like a place I spend five days there. I don’t go so fast. I travel with a backpack so that I don’t restrict myself to big cities. I can just go to small cities and stay how long I want. “It’s not the place you are trying to discover. You are trying to discover yourself.”
