Innovision Fall 2018

FALL 2018 | 15 and deans to help KU stay up and running as they look over budgets, finances, technology, classroom upgrades and hiring. An aspect of the job that Ken appreciates the most is how his job can impact students. He enjoys working on projects that can give the students a better college experience. Decisions on moving the writing center to the library and the development of the SMASHHub in Rickenbach Learning Center have been a few recent stand outs for Ken. Ken has always been a Golden Bear from his days as a student to his career in administration. But when it came to his son, Ken didn’t care where Ryan continued his education or what he studied. When asked about this, Ken said, “I want him to find something he can make a career out of. I wanted him to come out with a good basis.” Ryan had opportunities from other universities across the nation. He looked to his father for advice on what aspects he should be looking for in a college program. Ryan eventually chose KU because he knew that Kutztown would offer him a high-quality education and would prepare him for the future. Another factor in Ryan’s decision was his familiarity with Kutztown’s faculty. Instead of joining the workforce after completing his undergraduate degree, Ryan immediately applied for Kutztown’s MBA program. It has been a good experience for him. It’s different from his undergrad experience with business because the MBA program is more discussion-based. The students in the MBA program work in groups to analyze different cases. He said, “I like how it’s about real-life situations and more of a case analysis.” Ryan is on track to receive his MBA this upcoming December. He is also a Graduate Assistant for the Small Business Development Center here at KU. Ryan has been looking to work in Philadelphia in an accounting position where he can have the opportunity to move as he grows within the business. Although they went through Kutztown’s MBA program at different times, both Stewards received valuable assets for their future business endeavors, including skills that focus on leadership and management qualities. Outside of KU, the Stewards bond over sports. They enjoy going to different sporting events for Kutztown and professional teams, such as the Eagles. Ken has also been Ryan’s coach on his football and basketball teams. As a duo at Fleetwood high school, the two won a baseball championship together. Because he loves the sport and mentoring, Ken is still coaching the team. They also enjoy fishing and traveling. As a family, they travel around the U.S. and across the globe, such as Canada and Italy. “I want him to find something he can make a career out of. I wanted him to come out with a good basis.”
