SOCIAL WORK COURSEWORK FLEXIBILITY APPLY ADVANCED STANDING The Master of Social Work program at Kutztown Univer- sity focuses on the needs of the family in its social envi- ronment both at micro and macro levels of practice. MSW students are actively engaged with faculty experts in both exploring and enhancing their knowledge as it is related to the strengths and needs of the family. Students, faculty, and human service providers collaborate to assist families and change the social environment to support the families of today and tomorrow. The Master of Social Work is tailored to help students develop a clear understanding to practice social work with individuals, groups, families, organizations and communi- ties in their foundation year of study. The advanced year provides a concentration, developing knowledge on the family in its social environment. Students develop further specialization through elective courses offerings and an agency-based practicum experience. Certificates can be earned in areas of behavioral health, community devel- opment, leadership and management, or family and child wellness. Advanced Standing status may be granted to students who have earned a BSW from a Council on Social Work – accredited program. Applicants who are accepted into Ad- vanced Standing status may complete the MSW program in one calendar year. They also have the option to spread this coursework over two years. In either case, a summer internship is required for those with Advanced Standing status in addition to other fieldwork requirements.
