Cartagena is a double major in finance and personal financial planning. She hopes to graduate on the path to both a CFP and to earn her realtor’s license so she can help families secure their financial futures, whether they’re a big family unit or a single mom like her own mother. “I’m a people person. I enjoy talking to people. I don’t want to deal with big business or CEOs. I think family is important, and I hope that families will come to me for advice,” she said. Gerald Lowe (pictured), a rising junior who came to KU from South Africa, is also a double major in finance and personal financial planning. He sought out KU because of its proximity to New York City, its Division I rugby team (he became captain of the team his sophomore year), and the reputation of the business school. He’s also interning at the Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU), one of the largest credit unions in Pennsylvania. Lowe said the program is especially suited to international students because there are so many resources on campus, like info sessions on what to expect when you graduate from college. “KU is providing the resources,” he said, “but it’s on us to take advantage of all that’s at our disposal.” A professional rugby career and investment banking are both potential options for Lowe after graduation. 12 TOWER | SUMMER 2019 Senior Hanna Templin and Keith Torres ‘19 participated in the G.A.M.E. portfolio competition in New York City as part of their AIM experience. continued from page 11…
