FALL 2021 | TOWER 5 The NewDepartment of Art and Design The Department of Art and Design, a merger of KU’s Departments of Art and Communication Design, will provide greater collaboration and additional resources to students and faculty. Students will see no disruptions toward their current degrees, as course requirements and degree paths remain the same. The blend of art and design allows students and faculty to work across departments, places an increased emphasis on available electives, and increases resources with the shared use of equipment, facilities and personnel. Council of Trustees Approves NewMulticultural Education Program The Kutztown University Council of Trustees approved a new graduate program in multicultural education in September 2020. Throughout the 33-credit program, students will learn concepts of legal, historical and philosophical foundations of multicultural education through narratives and community- based experiences, before they choose their concentration in Equity in Education, Special Education, or English as a Second Language (ESL). With the addition of this program, KU enhances its already robust and award-winning selection of graduate education programs and courses that are offered completely online. Graduates of this very versatile and unique program can pursue careers in teaching, school administration, curriculum design, community or government agencies, or two or four-year institutions of higher education. Certified teachers can earn additional certification in Special Education, PreK-12 or Educational Specialist Certification in Teaching ESL. Criminal Justice Concentration Added to MPA Degree KU’s graduate-level criminal justice concentration within the Master of Public Administration degree will provide students with specialized knowledge and technical skills in budgeting, planning, personnel administration and police strategies. The curriculum has a practical focus that will develop applied administrative and analytical knowledge necessary for career advancement. The program is taught by full-time faculty who are renowned experts in their field and provides students with essential skills in human resource management, public budgeting, legal issues in criminal justice and policymaking. The program consists of 36 semester hours; conveniently blended and evening classes; flexible options for full- and part-time students; and is designed for working professionals with fall, spring and summer session courses.
