10 TOWER | FALL 2021 The Kutztown University Foundation has entered into a three-year part- nership with Spirit Music Collective, a full-service music production and licensing company that will market and sell the compositions of KU’s commercial music students. According to KU music professor Todd Walker , “This is an incredible professional opportunity for the students, and we are thrilled to have them get started right away.” Students who participate in this initiative sign a donation agreement that states their share of the royalties from the sale of their composition will go to the KU Foundation, ultimately benefitting students engaged in the university’s commercial music program. Spirit Music Collective, located in Studio City, Calif., offers creative music services including music composition, supervision, editing, mastering, plus music clearance to the entire production community. KU Arts Hall of Fame Inaugural Class Announced The Kutztown University Arts Society announced the six recipients of the new Schaeffer-Sharadin Fellows award, which includes the induction into the inaugural class of the KU Arts Hall of Fame. These inductees highlight the prominence of KU’s relationship with the highest caliber artists and arts supporters. This year’s inductees include faculty emeriti Ellen Finks , Richard Wells , Willis M. Rapp and alumni Eric Schaeffer ’84 , AndrewM. Kish III ’07 , and Karen TenEyck ’80. The Arts Hall of Fame will be located in the PSECU Wing of Schaeffer Auditorium. Those who have been named a Schaeffer- Sharadin Fellow will be featured on a permanent display. KU Foundation Announces Two Building Projects Construction is underway for two new projects at KU — the Wells-Rapp Center for Mallet Percussion Research and the DeLight E. Breidegam Building: Headquarters of the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center. The Wells-Rapp Center will be a 13,250-square-foot facility with a perform- ing space and rooms dedicated to each of KU’s specialized collections of rare marimbas, xylophones, vibraphones, bells and chimes. This will be a working facility that is open to students and researchers, and will allow access to play the instruments and view one-of-a-kind materials unique to this center. The DeLight E. Breidegam Building is a much-needed facility to house and display the Heritage Center Library collections and serve as the new headquarters for the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center at KU. This state-of-the-art facility will be open to students, faculty, visiting researchers and the public, allowing access to the unique collections showcasing four centuries of the Pennsylvania German cultural presence in the region. Air Products Foundation Grant Provides Scholarships Kutztown University is one of three local colleges to receive scholarship funds from the Air Products Foundation. This grant award, totaling $50,000, will provide 10 scholarships for minority or female students. KU will receive two scholarships for communication studies majors. Muhlenberg College and DeSales University will each receive four scholarships for accounting majors and computer science majors, respectively. Beyond the announced scholarships, these students may also benefit from paid internships that Air Products regularly provides. “We are grateful to the Air Products Foundation for their generosity and their long-standing commitment to higher education,” said Alex Ogeka , executive director of the KU Foundation. “This type of support is truly transformational for a young person with a dream of earning a degree.” Kutztown Partners with Spirit Music Collective NEWS NOTES KU foundation & alumni
