Trump appointed KU council of trustee member Guido Pichini ’74 to the Commission on Presidential Scholars in October 2019. The commission is a group of eminent private citizens appointed by the president to select and honor the Presidential Scholars. Commissioners are selected from across the country, representing the fields of education, medicine, law, social services, business and other professions. around campus Governor Wolf Visits KU Governor Tom Wolf visited Kutztown in March to discuss how his innovative Nellie Bly Scholarship Program would help at least 25,000 students in the state’s university system achieve their dream of earning a college degree. The visit was part of the governor’s planned tour of all 14 state-owned universities. “There is a student loan debt crisis across our country,” declared Wolf. “It’s a burden on young people and their families that can last for years and holds them back. The scholarship program will help young people to build lives in our communities rather than struggling to pay student loan bills every month.” New Polling Location Approved on Campus The Berks County Elections Board approved a proposal by university representatives to move a polling location from Maxatawny Township to the Student Recreation Center for a trial run. Dr. Eric Johnson, history professor and resident of the 3rd Precinct, delivered a presentation to the board in January which focused on the proximity of the university to the population center of the precinct, highlighted the limited parking options at the township building and addressed the increased security the university could provide to voters. Virtual 5K Raises More Than $5,700 151 participants ran, jogged, walked or biked 3.1 miles in a location of their choosing June 12-14 for the Golden Bear Athletic Club Virtual 5K. Organized by KU Foundation and the athletics department, the funds raised will go toward the department’s greatest needs.
