1 CHI SIGMA MU Inductees KU Health Fair The COSMAChi SigmaMuHonor Society represents the best students that COSMA- accredited programs have to offer. CSM students perform at the top of their class academically, volunteer within their department, college, and institution, pursue professional development opportunities, and foster community between students and faculty within their program. Over 50 students from KU Sport Management majors and Coaching & Fitness minors were involved in administrating the assessments at this year's Health Fair event. Below are the proud faces and winners of the Push-up contest. 21866 Minute Giving Challenge Led by two SM students, Hunter Pizzo andEmme Wolfel, the Sport Management Department raised $2,635 in the 1866 Minute Giving Challenge. For this year, three local businesses contributed to the 1866 Minute Giving Challenge, City Cuts Barbershop, Donut Lover's Boom, and Second Nature Health Food Store. 4National Collegiate Sports Sales Championship The annual National Collegiate Sports Sales Championship provides a venue for dedicated collegiate sales students to improve their skills and pursue career opportunities with professional sports organizations. 3 3 (L to R) : Kyle Newman, Sadie Doss, Brooke Lynn Grim, Gabe Motter, Jason Phelan, and Matthew Dougherty *Not in the photo include, Eleni Feggulis, Hannah Ricles, and John Shortino

The 2022-2023 NCSSC (Feb 27-28) was hosted by Baylor University’s Center for Sports Strategy and Sales and the Atlanta Hawks. 5 KU Fuel is a mentoring program that can help students build their network, increase contacts, and gain the necessary confidence needed as they transition from college to the workforce. Fall 2022 KU Mentor: Matthew Gordon GM at Harvard Recreation Mentee: Antaun Lloyd Fall 2022 KU Mentor: Cole Single Group Event Coordinator at Harrisburg Senators Mentee: Isaias Oviedo (L to R): Matthew Hoover, Matthew Sodano, Max Knittle, and Jonathan Summers Led by Dr. Y. Kim, the 2023 KU sales team members did an awesome job at the National Collegiate Sports Sales Championship. KU Sport Management program ranked 11th in the qualifying round, in November 2022. Matthew Sodano and Jonathan Summers competed in the Role Playing Championship Rounds and Matthew Hoover and Max Knittle participated in the Speed Sales competition. These students had a wonderful learning experience and job interviews at the site. KU Fuel Mentoring Program 6 National Collegiate Sports Analytics Championship Sport Management junior, Logan Kingsley, participated in the 1st National Collegiate Sports Analytics Championship and advanced to the second round. Led by Dr. Congelio, Logan competed in the Business Intelligence track. 4

7PASBC Case Study Competition Led by Drs. Kim, two sophomores, Isiah Fernandez andTyler Monahan, placed 3rd in this year's Pennsylvania Sport Business Case Competition! They devised two creative family ticket bundle packages for the Lancaster Barnstormers; Barn Bundle and Hay Day Bundle. 5 Field Trip to Lancaster Barnstormers On Thursday, September 15, SM students in SPT285 and 325 took a trip to the Lancaster Barnstormers game. The GM, Mike Reynolds, gave a tour, and students learned what goes on behind the scenes. The group was escorted to the media room to hear from the media crew. KU Sport Management students had a great time at the Clipper Magazine and enjoyed watching the game. 8 “The Fuel program is a great way to provide guidance for current students. … I have enjoyed hearing about my mentee’s interests. My goal is to point him towards the appropriate internship or experience, which will hopefully lead to his dream opportunity!” – Matthew Gordon “My KU Fuel program experience was awesome! Matthew and I were able to meet every week on Zoom, which helped us create a connection. Matthew was very genuine and helped me think of internship ideas for this upcoming summer!” – Antaun Lloyd

Morgan Hurd said, "It is a huge opportunity and experience for us students to gain the knowledge of fitness and improve our health/wellness. It also opens our minds to promoting a healthful lifestyle for our community." 6 The ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 21, 2002, unveiled Keith Haring Fitness Court. Drs. Crider and Vaughn dedicated their coursework toward programming for the Fitness Court. Keith Haring Fitness Court 9 Keith Haring Day Kutztown University hosted the first Keith Haring Day Fitness Event on May 4, 2023. This event marks a celebration surrounding Haring’s birthday, May 4. The events for the day included a Fitness Clinic hosted by the Department of Sport Management. The Kutztown community received instructions from the SM majors on the appropriate use of the outdoor Fitness Center. Following the clinic, Jordan Davis (SM intern) conducted a fitness competition. The competition included 4 teams. The exercises selected by Jordan posed quite a challenge to the participants. Professor Cebula presented “Motorsport as a varsity sport: what are the Title IX implications?” at the 2023 Sport and Recreation Law Association Annual Meeting, Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Y. Kimgrant acquisition “Embracing the future of sport marketing education: A proposal for integrating GSR into student learning. KU Professional Development Com mittee Dr. Congelioinvited guest lecture "A gentle introduction to research methods using a data analytics approach” New York University – Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport (TCSM1-UC1005: Research Methods). Dr. Congeliopresented “It’s gameday in Pittsburgh: Creating an artificial neural network to predict pedestrian flow rates to restaurants and bars” at the 2022 National Association of Business, Economics, and Technology Conference, State College, Pennsylvania. Professor Sigmond presented “Is A Professional Athlete Property of the Team?” at the 2022 National Association of Business, Economics, and Technology Conference, State College, Pennsylvania. Professor Cebula presented “A race official's mistake and an economic loss: is it negligence?" at the 2022 European Sport Management Association, Innsbruck, Austria. Faculty Award Congratulations to Dr. Yongjae Kim, who received the 2022 Chambliss Faculty Research Award. Dr. Kim has accumulated over 50 publications in top-tiered, peer-reviewed sport management and marketing journals, book chapters, and technical reports.He is the first in the Sport Management Department to be honored. *The Chambliss Award recognizes the very highest achievement in Research and Scholarship and can be awarded only once within a person’s career.

11 Damon Fives got an unforgettable Living Sport experience this Spring semester! Traveling with Living Sport, Damon participated in workshops and team-building exercises which led to meeting with multiple sport professionals. He also worked at the NFL fan experience where he managed event-week attractions and enhanced the fan experience for thousands of fans. At the end of the week, he had the opportunity to work Super Bowl LVII which hosted 70,000+ fans, there Damon worked as Event Operations Assistant on the main concourse. 8 Student Spotlight Damon Fives 12 “This trip has given me the opportunity to accomplish dreams I never thought could be possible. 18COSMA reaffirmation With joy, the Department of Sport Management announces its achievement of a seven-year reaffirmation of accreditation from the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA). Accreditation by COSMA is a stellar achievement and a statement of the program’s continuing commitment to quality and excellence in sport management education based on agreedupon accreditation standards. KU’s Sport Management program was the first in Eastern Pennsylvania to be granted accreditation by COSMA in 2015. New Hire! The Sport Management Department welcomed Mr. Brian Jones to the team. He taught SPT 222, Fundamentals of Coaching, for the Spring 2023 semester. He brings a wealth of experience with 40 years as a college football coach, primarily at the FBS level. 13 The Department of Sport Management would like to extend our appreciation to the students, alumni, administration, and support staff for all the support provided to help lead the process to success. Professor Hayduk retired from Kutztown University after teaching for 32 years, since 1991. She taught in FYS 100 and HEA 102, served at Freshmen Connections for the College of Business, and served as Acting Chair for the department. Best Wishes for her retirement. The competition saw the participation of 13 high school teams from five different states. The final four teams were judged by a panel of sport industry professionals, KU alum, and academics, who evaluated their presentations based on various criteria, including creativity, feasibility, and overall quality. The event received overwhelming support from the sport industry, with several organizations sponsoring the competition, including the Lancaster Barnstormers, Greco Promotions, and Living Sport.
