1 3 CHI SIGMA MU Inductees KU Health Fair The COSMA Chi Sigma Mu (CSM) Honor Society represents the best students that COSMA- accredited programs have to offer. CSM students perform at the top of their class academically, volunteer within their department, college, and institution, pursue professional development opportunities, and foster community between students and faculty within their program. They were great representatives of our SM programs. We received many compliments about them. 21866 Minute Giving Challenge For the first time, the SM program participated in the 1866 Minute Giving Challenge. Overall, Sport Management Department raised $3,053 with 35 donors. This was more than $500 past our goal! 4 National Collegiate Sports Sales Championship The annual National Collegiate Sports Sales Championship provides a venue for dedicated collegiate sales students to improve their skills and pursue career opportunities with profes3

sional sports organizations. The 2021-2022 NCSSC (Feb 7-8) was hosted by the Baylor University’s Center for Sports Strategy and Sales and the Atlanta Hawks. Robert Winegar and Matthew Dougherty competed in the Role Playing Championship Rounds and Hunter Pizzo and Tyler Sparks participated in the Speed Sales competition. These students had a wonderful learning experience and job interviews at the site. KU sales team members did an awesome job at the National Collegiate Sports Sales Championship. KU Sport Management program placed 8 in the National Collegiate Sports Sales Championship! That makes us the ONLY program in PA ranked in the TOP 10! 5COSMA Case Study Cup The annual COSMA conference was held in February, hosted by the University of Houston. The competition consisted of developing a philanthropy plan for Houston area professional teams: Texans, Dynamo, Rockets, and Astros. The students were required to determine best practices to improve community relations in the Houston area. “Being able to represent KU Sport Management at the COSMA Conference and Case Competition was an amazing experience! 7 6 2022 Spring Health & Wellness Expo PASBC Case Study Competition Students in the following courses (SPT 201, SPT 222, SPT 250, SPT 310) taught by Dr. Duane Crider, Dr. Michelle Vaughn, and Dr. Scott Bradshaw volunteered at the Spring Health and Wellness Expo. Collectively students were able to provide health assessments to about 100 attendees. Congratulations to our two teams who competed in this year’s PASBC case competition. Team A (L to R): Ryan Davey, Matthew Sodano, Christopher Bukowski, and Spencer Schumacher placed 2nd. Team B (L to R): Sadie Doss, Jonathan Summers, Eleni Feggulis, and Matthew Dougherty placed 3rd. Both teams did an outstanding job. 8KU 3V3 Basketball Tournament The Sport Management (SM) department hosted its first-ever KU 3V3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, April 23, 2022. The event was created, organized, and presented by the SM students of SPT330 Event and Facilty Management. The class has provided the students exciting learning opportunities to 5

practice their skills and knowledge obtained from SM required courses. The objective of the experiential learning is to help students build confidence and the reflective skills necessary in the sport industry. Congratulations to all the students who competed in the 2022 Kutztown University 3 v 3 basketball tournament Championship. Faculty Awards Congratulations to Dr. S. Kim! At the 2022 Pennsylvania Sports Business Conference, Dr. Kim was named the recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award. This award honors faculty who displays consistent and conscientious commitment to student success both in and out of the classroom, as well as commitment to quality research and scholarship in their field. Congratulations to Dr. Y. Kim! Dr. Kim was the 2022 recipient of the Faculty Mentorship Award from KU Undergraduate Research and Creativity Faculty Advisory Board and the Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects. This honor recognizes excellence in faculty engagement with undergraduate researchers. Most recently during the Spring 2022 semester, Dr. Y. Kim successfully secured the KU Bears grant. He will be mentoring Sadie Doss on a research project that involves individual’s eye movement and facial expression.

10Student Spotlights Kayla Argen Congratulations to Kayla Argen. She was awarded the Chambliss Academic Silver Medal for noteworthy achievements in athletics. Argen was captain and center midfielder for the nationally ranked KU women’s soccer team, where she helped lead the Golden Bears to a successful 17-1-2 season in 2021 and participate in the PSAC and NCAA tournaments. She was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-America First Team and D2CCA All-America Third Team, the eighth player in program history to earn All-America status and only the third to receive the recognition from multiple organizations in a single season. Eleni was awarded the ECC Elite 19 award for women’s bowling. This award goes to the student-athlete with the highest GPA competing in each of the ECC’s 19 championships. Learning at the minor league level makes you understand all avenues of the industry. It was an experience of a lifetime that I will forever cherish and would recommend to anyone wanting to get experience.” Kim Harrison is the Genereal Manager of 422 Sportsplex. She says, "422 Sportsplex operate 7 days a week with long hours. Sure, sports are fun and those who love sports can find the value in working in an environment like this and make it become less like work and more of a passion. However, it is not for everyone. I feel letting the interns really feel this concept is setting them up for success and really making them think about their future and career path. My hope is to teach them lessons along the way that can be applied to any job and set them up for reality and the real world. Sadie Doss Matthew Dougherty Eleni Feggulis Logan Kingsley 13 Logan Kemp Logan Nadelman Kyle Newman Ryan Stephano Kutztown University's Sport Management program was the first in Eastern Pennsylvania to be granted specialized accreditation through Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA) in 2015. During the 2021-22 AY, the SM Department worked toward reaffirmation of accreditation with COSMA. The site visit team visited Kutztown from April 18 to April 20, 2022. Based on COSMA’s eight accreditation principles, the site visit team reviewed the program. The SM department is confident that they will achieve reaffirmation of accreditation with COSMA in late September. This will validate continuous excellence in undergraduate sport management education. Farewell to Professor Elizabeth Rogol Professor Rogol retired from Kutztown University after teaching for 38 ½ yrs. since 1984. She taught in both the Business Administration and the Sport Management and Leadership Studies Department. In both departments, Professor Rogol served for numerous years as Chair and also served as COB Acting Assistant Dean. Best Wishes for her retirement. Thank You for your service throughout the years!
