MSW Field Profiles 2021-22
MSW Nicholas Croft 2021 Agency Name: Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living Profile: I was placed at the Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living (LVCIL). The LVCIL is part of a network of CILs across the country. CILs came about in the 60s and 70s as part of the civil rights movement. All CILs are focused on helping people with disabilities become more independent. The LVCIL provides a host of services to people in the Lehigh Valley with developmental or physical disabilities. Field Placement Responsibilities: I assist with a variety of tasks within the core services and housing department. The core services include peer support, information and referral, advocacy on the micro, mezzo and macro level, and independent living skills. Housing provides assistance with finding housing with appropriate accommodations. I work with all of these services in some capacity. For example, I will co - facilitate and eventually lead peer support groups and independent living skills workshops, I could assist with researching appropriate housing and contacting landlords with questions, or I might complete an intake for a new consumer. Future Goals: After obtaining my MSW, my goal is to work in mental health and become an LCSW. I hope to one day run a private practice serving people with disabilities, anxiety, and mood disorders.
