MSW Field Profiles 2020-21

MSW Olivia Orbe 2020 Agency Name: Disability Services Office: My Place Program Profile: My field placement is at the My Place program which is ran through Kutztown University ’ s Disability Services Office. The program provides enhanced support services to students enrolled in Kutztown University that are on the autism spectrum. My Place provides services through traditional academic accommodations and campus support services. Field Placement Responsibilities: As an intern at My Place, some roles I have are to work with students on their individual goals such as executive function, time management, academic issues, social skills/needs, problem resolution, orientation to campus and resources, and independent college living concerns. I also help coordinate and monitor group study halls, lead workshops, and facilitate group activities that support student success. I keep up to date with new research on college students with autism as well as other higher education initiatives. I broker students to resources on and off campus such as the writing center, tutoring services, and the Kutztown Community Partnership. I also create handouts consisting of tips, information, and resources that the students can use to help them adapt to college living. Future Goals: My goals for the future include working in school social work, criminal justice social work, or the substance abuse field.
