MSW Field Profiles 2020-21

MSW Kara McGill 2020 Agency Name: Red Knight Accelerated Academy - City Line Campus Profile: My name is Kara McGill and I am a second year part - time MSW student. My internship this year is within the Reading School District at one of Reading High school ’ s satellite campuses called Red Knight Accelerated Academy - City Line. Social workers have a huge role in the school setting and bridge the gaps that have broken over time between the schools, families and community partners. Field Placement Responsibilities: As an intern my main tasks will be to observe my Field Instructor as she reaches out to the students at Red Knight Accelerated Academy and be there as a main support when there are concerns with truancy, academic progress, mental health, homelessness, drug and alcohol, pregnancy and parenting. I will be assisting in Core TeamMeetings where student progress is observed and plans are made when a student is struggling academically or an outside factor is interfering with school. The Social Workers work as a team throughout all campuses and work to mend the rift between education and bio - psycho - social concerns to provide the students and families with a safe place where they can be provided free support. Future Goals: My future goals consist of gaining my LSW and moving on to begin my work as a social worker within the school setting. Department of Social Work
