MSW Field Profiles 2020-21

MSW Alexandra Garcia 2020 Agency Name: Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living Profile: Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living is my field placement. They are versed in providing their five Core Services (Information and Referral, Peer Support, Advocacy, and Independent Living Skills) to enable individuals with all types of disabilities to achieve independence within an inclusive community. Field Placement Responsibilities: I joined the Statewide Coalition Project which is a group working to expand independent living opportunities for everyone with a disability in Pennsylvania. This group also allows me to join the Statewide Advocacy Group as well. The Statewide Advocacy Group is a partnership with the 17 different centers for independent living in Pennsylvania, the group works to develop new material for consumers, create partnerships, and generate new curriculum that can improve all of the center ’ s core services. Together, I will be helping to enhance emergency preparedness for all 17 centers, advocating for voter rights by creating opportunities to boost voter participation, and I will be working with my team and other centers to better everyone ’ s violence and abuse prevention services. Future Goals: My goal is to make the most out of my time here at LVCIL by helping in any way I can and connecting my course material. I hope to achieve high regard from those I will be working with at LVCIL. Department of Social Work
