BSW MariamMacharia 2021 Agency Name: Youth Advocate Profile: Youth Advocate Program is a community - based alternatives for families experiencing challenges so the child(ren) are not placed out of the home and helps individuals reach their potential. The agency believes that people need access to safe places and positive connections in communities, to fully develop strengths and realize their potential by providing people what they need where and when they need it. The program specializes in supporting youth and families involved in the youth justice and child welfare systems; individuals with behavioral health needs, young people with developmental disabilities and/or struggling with educational challenges; and adults returning home from prison. Field Placement Responsibilities: As a BSW intern at Youth Advocate Program, I am learning to become a behavioral health therapist in a community - based setting. I support individuals with behavioral health needs, young people with developmental disabilities, and/or struggling with educational challenges. Implementing the core of professional values and ethical principles, I apply my knowledge, skills, and talents while utilizing the planned change process when working with the client system using the approach of person in environment. I complete tasks such as assessing clients ’ strengths and needs to create a service plan and when needed advocate on behalf of the client. Future Goals: My future goal is to obtain my master ’ s degree in social work. Although I would like to explore different aspect of social in the field, my main goal is to work with children with special needs and youth and older adults with intellectual disabilities.
