BSW Field Profiles 2021-22

BSW Cordell Maurer 2021 Agency Name: PROFS Resource Center Profile: The PROFS program stands for Providing Resources and Opportunities for Future Standouts. It is made possible by a partnership between Kutztown University and ChildPromise, Inc. PROFS provides a support program for students who are current or former members of the foster care system. PROFS is dedicated to supporting foster youth in various areas of their life as they take their college journey. Field Placement Responsibilities: I will work with the PROFS staff to assist with recruitment of new students for the program, planning events and workshops, developing a mentorship program, and helping students apply for and secure social service benefits. I am expected to learn about the challenges of students who have experience with foster care, homelessness, and housing/food insecurity; as well as best practices to support college completion for the population. Some of my specific duties or tasks are to communicate with various social service agencies, programs, and other organizations to help plan events, recruit new students, learn what has made other programs successful, and to help better serve our clients. I also conducted research regularly on supports that may be available for students in the PROFS program Future Goals: My future goals include working in the wilderness/ adventure therapy field, to never stop learning, and to make positive impacts on the world Department of Social Work
