BSW Field Profiles 2021-22

BSW Mercedes Martinez 2021 Agency Name: Kutztown University LGBTQ+ Resource Center Profile: The Kutztown University Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning Resource Center's mission is to create a welcoming and inclusive campus for individuals of all genders and sexualities. The Center provides LGBTQ+ resources and support, educational workshops, programs that empower and promote diversity, and a safe space that embraces individuality, authenticity and equality. Field Placement Responsibilities: Advocate for LGBTQ+ clients for their needs in the campus and community. Provide awareness of campus and local resources to clients. Provide a safe space for queer clients to feel welcome. Educate students on the LGBTQ+ community through workshops, libraries, and community outreach. Assist in center events and inform clients on statistics. Attend staff meetings to stay informed and up to date with the center. Continue to educate myself on the queer community and resources. Future Goals: Attend MSW program at Kutztown University and become a licensed clinical social worker. I would love to work as a substance abuse social worker. Department of Social Work
