BSW Field Profiles 2019-20

BSW Kelly Thom 2019 Agency Name: Schuylkill County Intermediate Unit 29 Profile: Schuylkill County Intermediate Unit 29 (often referred to as IU29) is an education services agency that serves all school districts within Schuylkill County. They offer a variety of services for students with intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, mental illnesses, and behavioral discrepancies. Their services include alternate education, day treatment, and behavior intervention. Field Placement Responsibilities: My field placement responsibilities are within the MAC department of IU29, which is the section for students with behavioral Intervention needs. My role is to co-facilitate group meetings, review case files, fill out discharge forms, and fulfill any other needs needed. I also sometimes act as a student learner, where I usually participate in conversations, but take notes and practice reflective listening. Finally, I work withmy field supervisor. I practice many social work roles working with her, sitting in on informational conferences, co-facilitating one-on-one social work counseling, practicing play therapy with younger students, keeping professional notes, practicing organizations, and understanding policies of IU29 and the state of Pennsylvania. Future Goals: In the future I hope to acquire my MSWand work as a mental health and substance abuse social worker. Department of Social Work
