BSW Field Profiles 2018-19

BSW Yadeliz Velez 2018-2019 Agency Name: Valley Youth House- Allentown, PA Profile: Valley Youth House is a non-profit organization that assists with adolescents who are runaway or homeless. Valley Youth House provides a numerous program such as child mentoring, life skills development, transitional housing, and street outreach. Field Placement Responsibilities: In my field placement we have daily responsibilities of conducting street outreach in the Lehigh Valley particularly in the Allentown area. We meet with new clients to discuss the services that the Synergy Project provides and connect clients with other resources while they wait for housing with the program. While doing an intake with the client the VYH is able to examine which are of interest the client is in most need of. Additional to street outreach we have weekly meetings of supervision, in those meetings potential clients that were referred to the Synergy Project are discussed and where they may fit in the Valley Youth House. During the meeting times I document the supervision and what areas require focus and attention. Future Goals: When I graduate Kutztown University I plan to work in the field of case management and pursue my MSW. Once I graduate with my MSW I would like to be in the field of child welfare.
