Dean's Scholar Recognition 2021
Dean’s Scholar Student 4 Kirsten Bell Senior Environmental Science: Geography Kirsten is a strong student whose name has appeared on the Dean’s List every semester since she transferred into KU after earning her Associate Degree in Environmental Science from Northampton County Community College. For the past year, she has been interning with the Philadelphia District of the United States Army Corps of Engineers at Blue Marsh Lake in Reading, PA. There she has worked on various park maintenance projects, visitor assistance programs, and habitat surveys. She has also worked with the Rodale Institute in Kutztown where she focused on learning the tenets of organic farming. Kirsten will graduate in May and hopes to begin a career in park management to continue taking care of the environment we live in. “My advice is that it’s okay to be lost. It is okay to not know what you want to do. You can always change your mind. You don’t have to be any one thing to be successful. Being successful is being happy. That’s sometimes hard to do, but I think that it’s important to find in the small things every day.” Andrew Bosche Senior Biology: Organismal/ Ecology KU BEARS Summer 2020 Andrew is a dedicated student whose name has appeared on the Dean’s List frequently. He participated in a research project with Dr. Underwood and was awarded a KU BEARS Research grant in 2020. Andrew studied many birds’ nests and migration patterns at French Creek State Park and on Kutztown’s campus, and he will present his findings at conferences, including the Ornithology Symposium this semester. He is President of KU’s Ornithology Club and a student athlete on the Men’s Track & Field team. Andrew is also on the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. Previously he worked as an intern for the Department of Environmental Protection, and he would like to pursue a career in a related field such as conservation, wild life restoration, game or wildlife commission. Andrew also intends to go to graduate school for a master’s degree in either entomology or aquatic entomology. “Meeting people with similar interests and goals in their lives is really cool. You get to meet people that are studying biology because they want to and because they want a job in this career field.”
