HonorSocieties Kutztown University recognizes the academic achievements of its students through a variety of honor societies that promote academic achievement and leadership. Among these are: ALPHA BETA ALPHA: An honor society dedicated to serving library science majors, to further the professional knowledge of its members, to promote fellowship, and to recruit librarians. The society maintains an abiding interest in librarianship, to acquire a true professional spirit and a deep sense of responsibility to the profession, and to seek a sincere, sympathetic, and full understanding of the work and problems of human beings. ALPHA EPSILON LAMBDA: An honor society for graduate and professional school students. Selection is based on commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and outreach endeavors. Members of this society wear a silver insignia featuring the Greek letters AEΛ and scarlet and gray cords as part of their academic regalia. ALPHA EPSILON RHO: An honor society for students in electronic media. Members demonstrate superior scholarship and creative participation in broadcast and corporate production and activity. Candidates must be in the upper third of their class, with a GPA of 3.25 both overall and in their major. Members wear green and gold cords as part of their academic regalia. ALPHA KAPPA DELTA: An honor society for students in sociology. Members wear teal, double-twined cords as part of their academic regalia. ALPHA PHI SIGMA: An honor society for students with a major or minor in criminal justice. Students must achieve a 3.2 GPA in criminal justice courses and a 3.2 GPA overall. Members wear blue and gold cords, a royal blue medallion, and/ or a gold stole as part of their academic regalia. ALPHA SIGMA LAMBDA: An honor society that celebrates the scholarship and leadership of full- and part-time adult students in higher education. Members wear maroon and gold cords as part of their academic regalia. BETA BETA BETA (TRIBETA): An honor society for students dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and scientific research. Since its founding in 1922, more than 200,000 persons have been accepted into lifetime membership, and more than 670 chapters have been established throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Requirements: biology, marine science/biology or environmental science/biology major; second semester sophomore; at least three biology major courses (one at 200 level or above); 3.5 GPA overall and 3.5 in biology courses. CHI ALPHA EPSILON: An honor society for students who participate in developmental programs, including Act 101 and Student Support Services. In order to be eligible for induction into Chi Alpha Epsilon, a student must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.0 for at least two consecutive semesters. Members wear blue and white cords as part of their academic regalia. CHI SIGMA IOTA: An international honor society for counselors in training, counselor educators, and professional counselors. It was established in 1985 by leaders in the counseling profession whose desire was to provide recognition for outstanding achievement and service. Chi Sigma Iota’s mission is to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership, and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the counseling profession. DELTA ALPHA PI: An honor society for students with disabilities that facilitates the development of leadership and advocacy skills. Membership is open to undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of 24 credits and achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.1. Graduate students must have completed a minimum of 18 credits and achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.3. Members wear blue and gold cords as part of their academic regalia.
